RUGBY

          U10 Kings Bruton Tournament  13.10.21

On Wednesday we took part in the King’s Bruton U10’s Rugby Tournament. We played against Millfield, Queens College, Hazlegrove and Monkton Prep.

As the tournament progressed we got better at passing and in our defensive play which meant that we eventually beat all the teams we played against. It was a hard tournament

But we improved during every game. We had a really fun day and enjoyed the day as a team – the cookies at the end were delicious. - Cameron, Luc and Etienne

          U11 / U13 v Monkton 06.10.21

U11

On Wednesday the U11s played Monkton at home. Monkton started with the free-kick beginning a fast and competitive match. We made a good head start, Kit scoring an amazing try followed by Freddie M. Towards the end of the match we slightly bunched up too much letting in a try right at the end however the overall score was 10-8 to Sandroyd. - Will R

U13

On Wednesday our first team took on a strong Monkton side. We started strongly having most of the possession which resulted in going through a few phases and then scoring the first try of the game, they then scored two quick tries which made us realise how capable they were of getting the better of us. I felt that we responded extremely well on having conceded those two quick tries because we picked our heads up and focused on the next job which was equalising. We then won a scrum in our own 22 and moved the ball through the hands and then we made a break, made a coupler of offloads and then a ruck was formed, we then got the ball spread it wide and we scored under the posts. That try gave us a lot of momentum to then score again just before the break. The first 5 minutes of the second half was mainly Monkton possession which led to them scoring two tries which made the score 20-20 and it also really tested our mental aspect of the game. We kept our heads high and then went through about 7 or 8 phases before scoring in the corner and I think that the try told them that we were not going to give up. We then scored another two tries and the final try which was scored by Jack  just put the icing on the cake for us.

I don’t think that we’ve shouted that much as a team all season after that victory. I want to wish Monkton luck for the rest of the season.  - Alfred H

HOCKEY

U9 Hockey Festival at Sandroyd 30.11.21

This week saw our youngest hockey players take to the pitch for a busy day of fixtures.  Our Under 8 and Under 9 girls played both in a festival against Sherborne and Salisbury Cathedral School and on an away fixture.  As a result of Covid cancellations from a number of schools, our U9 boys stepped into the breach to fill a gap in our festival schedule.  They had a great afternoon on the pitch, scoring lots of goals.  Our Year 8 Sports Scholars and 1st team players were the lead umpires and timekeepers for the event and they did a fantastic job.  Many of the visiting spectators commented on their outstanding manners, encouragement and positivity.  Well done to Oriana, Olivia, Virginia, Daisy, Evie, Molly and Laura.  The girls chose their key players for the festival and congratulations go to Jasper Ridland and Flora Marris for winning this accolade.

          U11 v Chafyn Grove 20.09.21

On Wednesday afternoon the U11A hockey team played a match away at Chafyn Grove School in Salisbury. Chafyn had a few early shots on goal but were saved by Poppy the U11A goalkeeper. Bea was on the right-wing when she received a brilliant pass from Tatty, Bea drove it up the wing and took a shot on goal... It slipped nicely into the back left-hand corner of the goal. They pulled back with another 2 goals so the result was 2-1 by the time the whistle blew. Sandroyd were unlucky not to score at the final moment. - Patience

          Mixed U11 / U10s v Clayesmore 13.09.21

The match we played against Clayesmore was very successful. We played well and the score ended up as 3-0 to Sandroyd.  Xanthe, Savannah, and Viva scored some fantastic goals.  Our team was mixed of Year 5 and 6 which was a really nice change to be playing with another year group. There weren't many of our year (6) as the rest were doing IAPS but we still played really well all the same.

          U8 / U9 v Sunninghill 12.10.21

U13 IAPS at Eastbourne College 11.09.21

The 1sts girl's hockey team drove with their coaches Mrs. Golding and Miss. Kerr to Eastbourne College to play in the IAPS hockey tournament.

As a team, we played hard and we were all fairly exhausted afterward. Although we made no wins we worked as a team. We scored two goals both of which were definitely well earned.

We had never played any of these teams before, it was hard but we all enjoyed ourselves and although we were defeated we walked off the pitch smiling and proud. - Oriana

          Interhouse Hockey 06.10.21

The senior Interhouse hockey competition played on Wednesday was great fun and very competitive. The final results were Avon in fourth place, Nadder in third and Wylye came second. That left the strong Ebble team in a well deserved but perhaps predictable first place. Well done to Ebble and everyone for a great games session. - Florence U

          U8s v Perrott Hill 05.10.21

On Tuesday we played our first away match this season against Perrott Hill. We started off well, switching positions which was a lot of fun. Our second game was slightly tougher and more competitive. However, Margot had great control over the ball and scored 4 goals!  - Bella & Emily

          U13 Canford Hockey Tournament 15.09.21

With three teams entered, Sandroyd arrived at Canford looking forward to a busy day of hockey. What an amazing start to the season! We played some really nice hockey today, under tough conditions. With back to back matches in the scorching heat, we had to dig deep throughout the morning and try and maintain a good level of pace in our play.

At the end of our group matches two Sandroyd teams had qualified for the Cup round and one team the Plate. We grew in confidence and started to play together in a much more cohesive manner, which was lovely to see after such a short period of time training together.

We finished the tournament on a high as Sandroyd faced Sandroyd in the 3rd & 4th place decider.  All credit to the girls for working so hard. Many of the girls were playing up a year. They should be really proud of their performances today.

          U8/U9  v SCS 14.09.21

Our youngest hockey players welcomed Salisbury Cathedral School to the first fixture since Lockdown at Sandroyd.  We had four teams ready for action.  The Panthers, Tigers, Jaguars and Leopards took inspiration from their big sisters on the hockey pitch.  They were like their name sakes, tigerish and fierce on the ball! They played four games and lots of goals were scored.  Lots of smiles and hockey was the winner on the day.
