Art & Academic Scholars' Trip

Art & Academic Scholars' Trip

After an early pick-up from camping, the academic and art scholars headed by train up to London. They were joined by 5 budding artists from Year 7. First stop was the Victoria & Albert Museum, and here Project Curator, Emma Edwards, guided the scholars around giving stories behind particular exhibits, the highlights being the golden Gloucester Candlestick and the Raphael Cartoons. The scholars were then taken behind the scenes to handle particularly intricate silver, bone and china objects, and hear their providence. In the afternoon, while the Art scholars viewed more of the many collections, drawing in situ for their sketchbook studies, the academic left for the House of Lords for a visit hosted by Lord Butler. They were treated to the Lord's Speaker's ceremony, question time in both the Lords and Commons, the history and stories of Parliament, before enjoying tea on the Riverside Terrace. This was a trip the scholars will remember for many years to come.
