Meet the Ponies

• Becks
  Becks

  Becks is a 12hh bay gelding, 20yrs old. He is owned by a Sandroyd family but is now a permanent resident at school. He can be cheeky especially when jumping but can also look after our younger riders in a group. He loves to be groomed and cuddled at breaktimes!

• Copper
  Copper

  Copper, a 14.2hh chestnut gelding, 20yrs old and Scooby's best friend!! This is our dressage star who can teach the riders the correct way of going. Very kind and willing when jumping and a good team pony. Owned by a family of boys and loves his hunting in the holidays.

• Dotty
  Dotty

  Dotty is a 13.2hh spotty mare, 16yrs old. She loves to hack and is easy to get going. Dotty tends to be ridden by more experienced riders as she's not so keen on the beginners.

• Echo
  Echo

  Echo is a 14.1hh black mare 12 yrs old. She joined Sandroyd with her friend Peter. A kind, sweet natured mare who is another dressage star. Willing and forward but kind and gentle with the novice riders. She is certainly a favourite with the older girls.

• Fudge
  Fudge

  Fudge, 12.2hh chestnut gelding, 24yrs old. Having been owned by various Sandroyd families he is now a permanent resident. He is very popular with our smaller riders as easy to ride and control. Fudge teaches his riders to canter, as he looks after his riders with a smooth stride.

• Jemima
  Jemima

  Jemima, 13.3hh coloured cob mare, 5yrs old. Our youngest resident who joined Sandroyd in 2021. She's ridden by the older children and is learning very quickly. A very safe hack and is not worried about anything whilst hacking.

• May
  May

  May, 14.2hh grey Connemara mare, 7yrs old. The new girl on the block! Owned by a Year 8 rider. May is settling well and has a lot of ability jumping. She is a very promising member of the NSEA teams.

• Minnie
  Minnie

  Minnie 13hh bay mare, 22yrs old. Minnie is owned by a Year 8 rider and can be quick when jumping. She is very kind and doesn't act her age!!

• Misty
  Misty

  Misty, 14.2hh grey gelding 15yrs old. He joined as a Sandroyd pony last Easter and has settled in well. He is a very safe hack and is steady in the school. Misty has a good calm jump and is ideal for the more nervous rider.

• Pancake
  Pancake

  Pancake is a 14hh bay mare, 13yrs old. She is owned by one of the pupils but ridden by others. She's a very strong team pony for NSEA and loves her jumping giving confidence to all her riders.

• Peter
  Peter

  Peter, a 12.2hh grey gelding, 12yrs old. He arrived with Echo and is popular with the smaller riders. He is very willing and safe in the school and great out hacking. His long mane gives the children plenty to groom at breaktime!

• Pippa
  Pippa

  Pippa is a is a 14hh coloured mare, 16yrs old. She's owned by a Year 7 pupil at school. She works well on the flat and has a very good jump. A strong team pony for NSEA with her riders.

• Popeye
  Popeye

  Popeye, a 14hh piebald cob gelding, 22yrs old. Popeye has been at Sandroyd for many years. He is very quiet for the beginners but can liven up with more experienced riders and still enjoys a good canter out hacking.

• Rory
  Rory

  Rory is a 14.2hh chestnut Welsh gelding, 14yrs old. A very calm gentleman who is great to hack out. He arrived last year and seems to be a very kind sole who looks after his riders well.

• Scooby
  Scooby

  Scooby is a 14.2hh bay gelding, 16yrs old. A very kind and genuine pony ridden by all ages. He has a steady jump for those learning and loves his cross country and hunting. He's a brilliant NSEA team pony with his rider in the jumping classes - a typical boys pony!

• Teddy
  Teddy

  Teddy is a 13hh dun gelding 22yrs old. Teddy has been owned by the school since 2009. Teddy is a great favourite with the younger riders as he feels very safe. He happily follows the others and has a very smooth canter, just don't ask him to go in front as the brakes go on! He loves going over little jumps as he can walk over them if necessary!

• Tia
  Tia

  Tia is a 13.2hh bay mare, 18yrs old. Tia can be a bit keen at times especially when jumping but she teaches her riders a lot about control and feel. She's very similar in looks to Minnie but at least they have different coloured rugs on so we can tell the difference between them in the field!

• William
  William

  William 12.2hh bay gelding, 16yrs old. He is owned by a Year 4 pupil and can be quite whizzy. He loves to jump and hack but can be cheeky at times and a challenge on the cross country for the older riders!

• Widget
  Widget

  Widget is a 12hh coloured gelding, 17yrs old. He's ridden by our smaller riders. He can be a little stubborn at times in the school but is great to hack out. Widget loves hearing the bell for breaktime as he adores being groomed and cuddled by the children!
