Senior Wessex Athletics – 13th June

Senior Wessex got off to a flying start with Amber Nielsen jumping 1m35 in the high jump- a new personal best. Although this put her in joint 3rd position, a count back meant she finished 4th, just missing out on a medal. The morning continued well as we went through the relays, some seamless changeovers but sadly none were quite quick enough to get into the final. The next success story was Benji Tucker, also in the high jump. Benji Tucker finished 2nd with a height of 1m40. This also meant that Benji qualified for Nationals on 4th July! Some steady performances in the 800m from Hugh Innes and Oscar Shepherd, followed by a stellar performance in the U13 shot put from Freddie Frampton-Hobbs. With a distance of 8.83m Freddie also earned himself a spot in the Wessex team at Nationals. Joey Kennedy and Amber both worked hard in the 1500m proving that they are determined athletes. Esme Thomas, Olivia Ashworth, Ollie Goodman, Edward Fuller, Francesca Wheeler and Tim Robinson also proved their worth on the track, finishing just out of the finals. George Radley’s javelin was good spectating, along with the long jump from Jerry Fang and Finn Jones. Oscara Dolwing showed off her elegant high jump technique and Islay Woolgar, Will Blowers, Esme and Rose Whitbread covered the throwing events. Millie Frostwick jumped well in the long jump finishing 4th overall with a distance of 4.16, a season’s best. Next up to add to the medals table was Jamie Lucas-Rowe who stormed across the finish line in the final of the 100m in 3rd position. With legs like jelly he walked straight to the 200m final only to finish 1st! With a rapid time of 28.3seconds, Jamie was also straight through to the Nationals. A fantastic day for Sandroyd- Congratulations!
