Riding at Sandroyd

Welcome to the riding department. Our aim is to promote the enjoyment of riding and care of ponies, in a professional yet relaxed environment.

We are a registered Pony Club Centre and a licensed riding school. We have also fostered close links with the Wilton Hunt Pony Club, allowing us to run joint events, including a quiz and a Hunter trial. We are members of the NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) and our pupils regularly compete at the qualifying competitions and have qualified for the Championships for the last few years.

We have a range of ponies to suit all abilities, from beginners to competition riders. If your child would like to bring their pony to school a limited number of livery places are available, either full or working livery (subject to suitability of the pony). Children are always welcome to visit the stables during break times, to help with the ponies.

Our facilities include an American barn stabling complex, an outdoor ménage, show jumping paddock and a custom built cross country course. All of which are available for lessons, competitions and external hire.

Lessons are available on an individual basis, semi individual, or small groups (no larger than 5 riders) and riders are grouped according to their level of ability. We also offer hacking in the beautiful Rushmore Park, which is all off road. In the pipeline we are hoping to offer hacking for parents.

Our annual tetrathlon competition is a well supported fixture, by both schools and Pony Clubs, in the local area and now much further afield.

Meet the Sandroyd Ponies!

I am Apple. I belong to Mr. Wayne. I am the biggest pony at Sandroyd.

I am Fen. I can be rather grumpy but I love my jumping.

I am Flash. I am the only grey boy here. I love being ridden in the fields.

I am Mary. I love looking after the smaller children but I don’t like Laddy much.

I am May. I love being kept busy and if you want to do a competition, then I’m your girl.

I am Popeye. Mrs. Latham thinks that I am the best. I may be a bit fat but I try hard, especially if treats are on offer.

I am Laddy. I’m a good boy for my riders but please don’t cuddle me because I don’t like it.

I am Shadow. I love my food. My owner is Quinta and I am very well behaved for her, most of the time at least.

I am Sky. I am the youngest pony here. I love everything and everyone.

I am Teddy. I am the bursar’s favourite pony. I’m just as soft as a real teddy bear.

I am Tommy. I can be cheeky especially if I think I haven’t been fed enough. Lots of people love me though.
