The home of the Pre-Preparatory Department at Sandroyd School for boys and girls aged 2½ – 7 years. Architect designed and purpose-built in 2004, The Walled Garden nestles in Sandroyd’s beautiful grounds in the Wiltshire countryside. We are a small school with big ambition! Our broad but structured curriculum for Key Stage One (Year 1 and Year 2) consists of the usual school subjects as well as making time for a broader and more personalised learning experience.
Our Nursery and Reception children are taught using the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework as a base whilst being able to utilise the fabulous facilities and grounds of the Prep school and specialist teaching staff. Literacy and Numeracy skills are given a high priority and taught daily in carefully planned lessons that are designed to excite and stimulate young learners. Our classes are kept small so that each child is given individual support; enabling them to reach their own personal goals and beyond!
Throughout Key Stage 1, Science, History, Geography and Religious Studies are all taught through year group topics, they range from mini-beasts to homes, Elmer to India and many more! Learning in the EYFS is also topic based throughout which allows the children to develop their own individual interests. Educational trips are organised each term to reinforce and extend the learning.
Creativity plays an important role in the lives of our pupils. We believe that young children access so much valuable education through exploration and investigation…so we encourage it! Art, Music and Drama are all a part of the weekly timetable, the lessons are planned to allow the children to develop their creativity freely and to gain in confidence and pleasure from the arts.
Games, Gym and Swimming are built into the timetable each week and are taught by specialist staff. This not only promotes a healthy lifestyle within the children but allows them to have the very best coaching with their first experience of a sport. We are in the fortunate position of having the full use of the Prep school’s fabulous facilities including the gym, pitches and indoor heated swimming pool.
A daily home-cooked lunch in the Prep school Dining Room is provided each day by our fabulous chef. We sit with the children in family groups to promote healthy eating and table manners. After school activities are offered each day; Ballet, Sport, Horse Riding, Cookery, Art and DT and Ukulele are all eagerly awaited at 3:45pm!
