DAVID WILLCOCKS MEMORIAL CONCERT AT SALISBURY CATHEDRAL
On Sunday 20th November nine of our most senior girl choristers sang in a semi-professional concert at the invitation of St Mary’s Calne, which included a World Premiere of a new anthem for choirs written and conducted by the son of the man being honoured, Jonathan Willcocks. Alongside the choirs of St Mary’s Calne, St Margaret’s Prep, Farleigh Prep and Salisbury Cathedral School, our girls also performed This Joy!, conducted by the very well-known composer, Bob Chilcott and Wassail Song by Vaughan-Williams.
Well done to Jamuna, Flora C, Esme, Fenella, Lily Z, Eliza, Isla, Bella SG and Freya on working so hard to memorise all these songs and being a delight to spend the day with too, and sorry that you couldn’t be with us on the day, Olivia A – we missed you!
It was also wonderful to be performing with Old Sandroydians Hannah G, Hatty I, Flora W and Anna W. Thanks to the parents and siblings who paid to come and support the music-making in aid of Music Scholarships at St Mary’s Calne, where David Willcocks was, at one time, Director of Music as well as Organist at Salisbury Cathedral.
