The charity for the Summer Term 2012:

The Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust

"Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (SDBTT) is the largest brain tumour charity in the UK, currently funding over 20 research projects, providing UK-wide support and information to people living with and affected by a brain tumour and campaigning to raise awareness of brain tumours.

Thanks to all our supporters and donors, we’ve now raised over £10m for brain tumour research and support services.  We are proud to be leading the fight against brain tumours through being the largest dedicated funder of brain tumour research in the UK."

This term we shall be supporting the RNLI

Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI. We rely on more than 40,000 volunteers - on lifeboats, at stations, on beaches, and in fundraising.

Some crew members and most lifeguards are full time. They work with other staff to ensure comprehensive safety coverage around our islands. The RNLI is an independent charity with a board of volunteer trustees.

We are supporting the Charity, The Richard Ely Trust, this term.   The trust helps young people to develop their talent and love of music.

Our purpose is to promote, improve, develop and advance education in and the appreciation of music in all its aspects for young people under the age of 21 resident in or educated within Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole with a particular view to assisting those in financial hardship.  Our firm belief is that in this way we will enable young people to develop precious talent, for their own benefit and that of the community.

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP)

Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) involves the progressive death of neurons (nerve endings) in the brain, mainly in the basal ganglia and brainstem, just above the nuclei (hence ‘Supranuclear' being a key part of its name).
