This is a new venture which was inaugurated by Martin Harris.  The first of the lectures was on the subject of 'The Fighting Temeraire'.  The talk not only centred on the picture itself but also encompassed the history surrounding Turner's most famous work.

The lectures are aimed primarily at the senior part of the school although any other children will be welcome to attend.  They will usually take place in the evening and are expected to last in the region of 30-60 minutes.

If any of our parents, friends or Old Sandroydians with a particular interest or area of expertise would like to come and talk to the school at some future date, they are very welcome to contact the Sandroyd office.  The aim of the lectures is to give the children some insights into subjects which they may not encounter in the course of their day to day school timetable.

THE TRAIL TO TITICACA

Old Sandroydian and current Sandroyd parent Rupert Attlee talked to the school about cycling 10,000kms up the Andes on his Trail to Titicaca.  The talk was at 18.00 on Wednesday 22nd February.

SAFARIS IN EAST AFRICA

The children were recently treated to a talk by Abraham about safaris in East Africa.  He spoke about safaris in their early days - on foot, wading across rivers, meals no more complex than beans on toast etc).  He also recounted some close encounters with the more alarming wildlife - elephants,  hippos and lions.

Abraham works in Zambia for the safari business of Sandroyd parent Alex.  He is pictured below with Alex's two sons, Oscar and Louis at the school.
