This page will be broadly dedicated to all the musical activities that take place here at the school. We hope to add reports and photos each term in addition to highlighting upcoming events which may be of interest. In the past, our choir was supported by various adult voices and Miss Rolt, the Director of Music, would love to hear from any parents or guardians who would like to lend their voice to augment the Senior Choir at one or two special services throughout the year. Please e-mail Miss Rolt - erolt@sandroyd.com - for further information or to express an interest ------------------------- JOSEPH Please click on the link below for photographs of the Spring Term's fantastic production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat -------------------------- CANFORD SINGING FESTIVAL On Friday afternoon (2 March), Year 5 went to Canford to take part in the Prep Schools' Singing Festival. Miss Rolt and Miss Lorraine, as well as many parents, were extremely proud of the Year 5s when they performed with a number of other schools and the Canford Chamber Choir in an evening concert. The programme included Arlen's Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Brown's Singing in the Rain and Fly Me To The Moon by Bart Howard. Well done Year 5! Well done, everyone! ----------------------------------- Uppingham Skills Weekend Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th March 2011 A group of Years 5 and 6 pupils attended the Uppingham Skills weekend at the end of last term near Rutland. The school kindly provided overnight accommodation in the various boarding houses and a hearty breakfast to prepare us for the activities that the weekend offered. Activities offered included making and flying a kite, forensic science, sports, dance and gymnastics, beekeeping, arts and ceramics, golf, photography, king of the courts, theatre, cooking, cycling, rugby and soccer, orienteering and shooting, cricket and tennis, archery and juggling, motor workshop, basha building, camp craft and field cooking.
The Registrar of Uppingham, Mr Charlie Bostock, was particularly delighted that Sandroyd had participated in the event as he was an old Sandroydian. The children were enthralled by the stories he told of his time at the school and also his father’s memories. They were particularly interested to hear about Mr Bostock’s fond recollections of Mr Brisbane’s Latin lessons! ------------------------- Canford Prep Schools Singing Festival Friday 11th March, 2011
Year 5 pupils enjoyed a fun filled afternoon of choral activities at Canford School recently when they attended the Canford Prep Schools’ Singing Festival. The event included workshops and rehearsals, sessions with Canford’s singing teachers and a performance with the chapel choir. At the end of the afternoon, pupils gave a concert for parents and staff of a range of Spiritual songs including ‘Oh when the saints,’ prepared at Sandroyd in the weeks preceding the event.
