Skills Knowledge and Understanding for Lifelong Learning SKULL - THE BARE BONES Below are the outlines for the various topics covered in the SKULL lessons throughout the year
Study Skills – All age groups 
This activity deals with a variety of study skills including effective revision, organisation, learning techniques and learning styles. Further advice on Study Skills and Essay Writing is given to Year 8 in January as specific workshops and individual teachers and tutors give advice relevant to their subject. -------------------- Green Issues - All age groups 
Promoting environmental awareness in all its forms at an appropriate level for each age group -------------------- Sex and Relationships Education – All age groups 
The school delivers its’ SRE programme through SKULL. The programme is in line with Government guidelines and is appropriate to the age and maturity of pupils. It is supplemented by the science Scheme of Work. The school has also developed an appropriate whole school policy available to parents. -------------------- Art Appreciation – Years 7 and 8 
Pupils are given the opportunity to study and discuss a variety of key works of art and to consider the qualities of great works of art. -------------------- Career Skills – Years 7 and 8 
Senior members of the school are given a short course to help them to present themselves well in interviews and on paper. -------------------- First Aid – Years 7 and 8 
A general course on basic first aid with specific focus on some emergency procedures. -------------------- Debating – Years 7 and 8 
A short series of sessions on formal debating is delivered to the senior classes. -------------------- Politics and British Constitution – Years 5 – 8 
Senior and middle school pupils are introduced to the key ideas behind the legal system and the governance of Britain. Some impartial instruction is also given on party politics. -------------------- Engineering Feats – Years 5 and 6 
The importance and achievements of British engineers and designers through history is considered. Pupils investigate and research specific examples of iconic design and engineering excellence. -------------------- Financial Literacy – Years 5 and 6

Children are introduced to some key features of personal finance. These include bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, debts and some macro-economic themes such as interest rates and unemployment. -------------------- European Cultures – Years 5 and 6 
Some important differences between our lifestyle and traditions and those of some of our European neighbours are considered. Special importance is attached to art, architecture and music along with some aspects of recent history. -------------------- World Cultures – Years 3 and 4 
The youngest pupils are given the opportunity to develop their understanding of the lives and traditions of other children, particularly those in the developing world. This is linked with work covered in Geography and History. -------------------- In The News – Years 3 to 6 
Key items in the news are brought to the attention of pupils. In addition children are encouraged to read the young newspapers available in the library. Year 5 also have a dedicated Current Affairs prep based around Newsround. -------------------- Animals and plants in the garden – Years 3 and 4 
Younger pupils are given the opportunity to develop an interest in natural history by learning to recognise some common plants and animals. -------------------- Greek Myths and Legends – Years 3 and 4 
Before they start the study of Latin, junior pupils are told some of the best known and most exciting stories from the Classics. -------------------- Reading – Years 3 and 4

In addition to regular class and after lunch sessions, some time is given to allow adults to listen to junior pupils read.
