The object of the Sandroyd School Trust is to educate children in a safe and professional environment
In general terms, the school understands that its charitable objectives fall into two main categories: 1) Financial assistance 2) The availability of its facilities and resources -------------------------- Financial assistance The school offers financial assistance in the form of Bursaries. Currently this assistance amounts to 4.75% of the total fee income of the school. Bursaries are awarded to those families who would otherwise be unable to meet the full fees in order to send a child to Sandroyd. A number of factors are taken into account when awarding bursaries, including family income, the net value of assets in the family, and, if a successful application is made, the award is pegged according to these factors. One 100% bursary is available from Year 7 and is a joint award with Bryanston School enabling a pupil to continue in private education from aged 11 to 18. Please see below for further details. Forms and conditions of bursaries are available from the Bursar. All bursaries are means-tested. Any request for a bursary is forwarded to a committee comprising the Headmaster, the Bursar and two Governors. Bursaries are awarded on an annual basis and reviewed annually. Funds are limited and not every eligible applicant will be successful. On receipt of an application form for a bursary the child will be invited to the school for assessment and interview. Hardship Bursary. In addition there are a limited number of bursaries available to those parents of children currently at Sandroyd who, for one reason or other, find themselves unable to continue to meet the fee requirements. Once again these awards are means-tested and subject to annual review. The Sandroyd/Bryanston Bursary. A single bursary of 100% of the school fees is awarded annually to a girl or a boy whose parents had not previously considered private education. The child selected each year enters Sandroyd as a full-time boarder in Year 7 and remains at the school for 2 years before moving on to Bryanston where the award continues in order for the child to complete their education. This wonderful opportunity is of considerable value and the selection process is made not just through means testing, but also on the academic and all-round talent of the child. The benefit that the school can add to the lives of people, particularly children, living in the local community is enormous and the school will actively seek opportunities to increase and improve on this contact. Minibus services The school provides a comprehensive minibus service from the surrounding towns and villages. School minibuses are also used to transport children from local schools to take part in activities at the pre-prep The Walled Garden ------------------------- Appendix The school also has a role to play for the benefit of the wider community although it recognises that this role is not a part of its charitable objective (see above). Employment The school is a major private employer. Given the rural location this provides an immense employment opportunity for local people coming from all walks of life and offering a range of skills. A number of young students are employed every year, mainly through the GAP scheme. Charities The school supports a different charity each term. Significant donations, usually in excess of £1,000 a term, are made to the specific charities with funds raised in a number of ways e.g. through church collections, Friends' events, sponsored activities etc. Charities supported over the last three years have included: The Children's Trust Naomi House Children's Hospice Schoolchildren for Children Help for Heroes Parkinson's Society - local branch Wiltshire Air Ambulance Stars Appeal Southern Spinal Injuries Trust Progressive Supranuclear Palsy National Bee Unit British Heart Foundation The Richard Ely Trust The RNLI The school also sponsors the education of a young Thai orphan, Adip.
