bee keeping

Sandroyd has established an apiary within its grounds.  The apiary consists of two colonies (two hives) of bees and provides pupils with the opportunity to be involved in the  ‘craft’ of bee keeping.

It is our hope that the ‘fruits of the harvest’ will be able to be offered to those at Sandroyd.  This will assist with resourcing necessary equipment and the on-going care of the bees and the apiary.

If you would like to be involved or like to donate any equipment that is surplus to requirements or if you require any further information, please contact Mr K Brewer at the address below:

Bee Positive!

Congratulations to Edward Horner (Year 8) for winning the Design and Technology competition to design a new logo for the Sandroyd Honey labels (see below).

Well done to Elfie Thomas (Year 8) and Sam Mason (Year 7) as runners up.

Look out for the Sandroyd Honey on sale at the Christmas Fair on Friday 18th November!

A REAL 'BUZZ' AT SANDROYD

Over the last six months the Sandroyd bees have been busy foraging for nectar, pollen, water and propolis.

Under the watchful eye of Mr Brewer the 'busy bee troop' have been observing the bees depositing what they have collected in the hive situated in the school grounds.

This year has seen a good harvest of honey and Mr Brewer looks forward to selling the 'amber nectar' at the Christmas Fair on the 18th November.
