Congratulations to our chef, Robert Doble, who with Catherine Harris has been judged as the winner of the Taste of the West awards in the category of 'Local Food in Schools'

This is what the judges had to say:

We felt that a huge amount of work had been undertaken to achieve the level of success evident at Sandroyd.  Everyone involved at the school showed a real commitment to ensuring that their pupils received nutritionally balanced  meals.

The introduction of food topics and sustainability in many of the curriculum subjects was welcomed.  The well-structured 'whole school' approach will ensure that the generation of tomorrow has a clear understanding of the importance of food.  It is clear that the school has developed a thorough local sourcing policy and is very proud of its achievements.

Catherine Harris, in conjunction with our chef, Robert Doble, is determined to support local food growers and suppliers whenever and wherever possible.   Below is a list of our food sources

Meat

The majority of our fresh meat is supplied by two high-class local butchers:

Simon Harvell of Iwerne Minster – all his meat is sourced from local farms

Paul Buttling of Ludwell – well known for his award-winning sausages

Congratulations to T Buttling Butchers Ltd for winning seven awards in the recent South West Roadshow and Product Evaluation Event which aims to find the best meat products made and sold by buutchers in the region.

Most of the ham and bacon comes from Hunts Foodservice.

Fish

Local supplier Premier Fish supply our fresh fish.  Some of the fish is sourced from Poole

Hunts Frozen Foods supply much of our frozen fish.  Youngs is preferred for quality.
